His days at Western Kentucky have truly become legendary in that part of the country and will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to see him play in college. This led him to be swayed to leave college early as he was being advised he would be able to enter the NFL as nothing less than a #2 pick in 2002.
This same story was told to Roy Williams #31 of the Dallas Cowboys the same year, and recently the QuarterBack for the Steelers Ben RoethlisbergerRoy left school his Junior year as well, but after seeing that the advice he was given was not exactly matching up to way things in the real world were working out. So Roy decided to return to school and see how things played out in 2003 and seems this worked out to Roy's advantage. Then in 2004 a QuarterBack named Ben Roethlisberger found himself being passed over in the NFL DRAFT in NEW YORK . Ben was sitting at a table with his agent wondering what could possibly have went wrong until receiving a call from Bill Cower in the late rounds of the NFL Draft. This worked out to both of their advantage but was not seen as such until an injury occurred to Pittsburg's starting quarterback Tommy Maddox. These are 2 success stories out of the hundreds that we do not hear about that in most cases end up in the " what ever happened to" files when the advice given doesn't work out the way it was expected.
You won't find a "What ever happened to Bobby Sippio file" because things did not go as expected . This was nothing more than a little bump in the road . Bobby was never given anything because of his name or as favors to his parents by others as sometimes happens in sports. There is no doubt that Bobby has natural talent but what adds to his natural abilities and size are the values instilled in him by his family. That loyalty honesty mixed with hard work and a never say never attitude are the keys to making your dreams come true.
Bobby went straight to theses values and joined what was then a fairly new AFL2. His first season in this league and he earned the Nickname of "Mr Excitement". The hard work and his determination to be the best helped his team win the AFL2 Championship that year. The following year a newly formed AFL team in Dallas under the same ownership as the Dallas Cowboys, found themselves having trouble making it past the first round of the playoffs in each of their first 2 seasons.
The Dallas Desperados had Andy Kelley at quarterback and just couldn't get it done, then they traded for this top rated quarterback for Jim Kubiak</a> who was another top rated quarterback in this league in addition to this they had NFL experience at the Head Coaching position as well as the Resources of the Dallas Cowboys behind them. Still they had something missing. So they went and found Bobby Sippio and everyone knew this was the solution needed to win a championship. Bobby's ability to play both sides of the ball and his ability to react and make plays at the extremely fast pace that this game is played at were key to the package they had put together. Bobby soon ran into another "little bump in the road". Just before the season was to begin the Starting Quarterback suffered a neck injury similar to that of Michael Irvin the Dallas Cowboys. This left the Dallas Desperados scrambling to find an experienced AFL Quarterback at the last minute. Needless to say Dallas has spent the past two seasons trying to fill the quarterback spot. Then to yet another bump in the road occurred when the Head Coach left as well to return to the NFL in Oakland. None the less Bobby was making plays as the fans and coaches hoped and expected he would. The team unfortunately was stuck in transition mode with the new head coach and the new quarterback. Bobby's talent and contributions were many times overlooked as the team focused their efforts in what seemed to be a different scheme each and every week. With all this chaos going on Bobby was not used to his full potential but his drive to be the best still added a level of Excitement and a glimmer of hope from the fans that the Desperados could make it to the championship.
